PRIVATE DOG SLEDDING TOURS
Fairbanks, Alaska

A Private Mushing Experience Designed Around Your Group

A private dog sledding tour gives your family or group the freedom to experience Alaska’s winter trails at a pace that works for you.

Drive your own team of Siberian Huskies, ride comfortably in a guide’s sled, or combine both options within your group. With no outside guests joining your departure, we can provide additional instruction, accommodate younger participants, and give your group more time to learn, ask questions, take pictures, and get to know the dogs.

No previous mushing experience is required. We provide professional instruction, expedition-quality winter outerwear, and experienced wilderness guides to help you feel comfortable and prepared.

Your private tour includes:

  • Exclusive departure for your group

  • Professional dog-sledding guides

  • Hands-on mushing instruction

  • The option to drive, ride, or combine both experiences

  • Time with our Siberian Huskies

  • Expedition-quality parkas, insulated pants, boots, and mittens

  • Warm drinks

  • Home-baked treats

  • Scenic stops and opportunities for photographs

  • Hot campfire lunch on full-day tours

Guests should arrive with suitable baselayers, warm socks, a hat, and any personal items recommended on our day-tour packing list.

Transportation to and from the kennel is not included. Arctic Dog Adventure Co. is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Fairbanks, and we recommend having a rental vehicle.

PRIVATE HALF-DAY DOG SLEDDING TOUR

2–3 Hours | November–March

Our half-day experience is perfect for families and groups who want a genuine, hands-on introduction to dog mushing without committing to a full day outside.

After getting outfitted in warm gear, you will meet the dogs and learn how a working sled-dog team comes together. Guests who are driving will receive a complete lesson covering how to harness their dogs, control the sled, slow their team, stop safely, and assist the dogs on hills.

Once everyone is ready, your guide will lead the group on approximately six miles of winding trail through old-growth boreal forest and onto a ridge overlooking the White Mountains and Chatanika River Valley.

Depending on your group, participants may drive their own dog team, ride in a guide’s sled, or enjoy a combination of both experiences.

Private-tour pricing: Starts at: $1,996 USD (the monetary equivalent of four participants)
Standard group size: Up to six guests
Time on the trail: At least one hour of dog sledding
Lunch: Not included
Transportation: Not included

PRIVATE FULL-DAY DOG SLEDDING TOUR

6–7 Hours | December–March

For guests who want to spend more time with the dogs and go deeper into the winter landscape, the private full-day tour offers an immersive day of mushing in Interior Alaska.

Your day begins with a gear fitting, safety briefing, and hands-on lesson. You will meet your team, learn how to harness the dogs, and prepare the sleds before heading onto the trail.

The full-day route generally covers 10–15 miles, depending on weather and trail conditions. Along the way, we stop for a hot campfire lunch, warm drinks, photographs, and time with the dogs before continuing through the boreal forest.

The additional trail time makes this our most complete day-tour experience. It allows your group to settle into the rhythm of traveling by dog team while learning more about the dogs, mushing, and life in Alaska.

Private-tour pricing: Starts at: $3,196 USD (the monetary equivalent of four participants)
Standard group size: Up to four guests
Time on the trail: Approximately four hours of dog sledding
Lunch: Hot campfire lunch included
Transportation: Not included

YOU CAN DRIVE OR RIDE

Our public day tours are active “drive your own dog team” experiences. Private tours give us more flexibility.

Depending on your group’s ages, abilities, and interests, your experience may include:

✔ Driving your own team of four to six Siberian Huskies

✔ Riding in the basket of a sled driven by an experienced guide (ideal for guests with mobility limitations or young kids)

✔ A combination of drivers and riders

✔ Extra instruction for first-time or younger drivers

✔ Additional time for photographs and interacting with the dogs

✔ A pace adapted to your private group

Our standard setup can accommodate two guests riding and two guests driving at one time. Larger groups may rotate between the trail and our heated waiting area, where they can enjoy hot drinks, learn more about mushing, and spend time with the dogs.

One adult per sled basket. Children may sometimes ride together when approved by Arctic Dog in advance.

Tell us who hopes to drive, who would prefer to ride, and whether anyone has physical limitations when you submit your inquiry. We will recommend the best tour length and format for your group.

PRIVATE DOG SLEDDING TOURS FOR FAMILIES

Guests under 18 may participate only as part of a private tour accompanied by a responsible adult.

Children ages 12 and older can typically learn to drive their own dog team, pending guide approval. The final decision depends on the child’s size, maturity, coordination, ability to follow instructions, and the weather and trail conditions on the day of the tour.

Children ages 11 and younger will ride in a guide’s sled rather than driving their own team. All family bookings are reviewed in advance to make sure we can provide a safe and enjoyable experience.

Important Information for Famlies

  • One adult may accompany a maximum of two minors.

  • Children and teens are charged the regular tour price.

  • All minors must remain under the supervision of their parent or guardian.

  • Driving privileges are always subject to guide approval.

  • Families should share the ages, approximate sizes, and preferred participation of all children when inquiring.

The additional guide support and private format allow us to maintain appropriate pacing while safely managing young participants and high-energy sled dogs.

IS A PRIVATE TOUR RIGHT FOR YOUR GROUP?

A private tour may be the best choice if:

  • You are traveling with children or teenagers.

  • Someone in your group would prefer a traditional sled ride.

  • Your group includes a combination of drivers and riders.

  • A guest has a physical limitation or requires additional support.

  • You would value more individual instruction.

  • You want additional flexibility with pacing and rest breaks.

  • You are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, reunion, or other special occasion.

  • You simply want the trail and guide reserved exclusively for your group.

Private tours are customized within the limits of weather, trail conditions, guide availability, equipment capacity, and the wellbeing of the dogs.

WHY PRIVATE DOG SLEDDING COSTS MORE

A private tour reserves guides, dogs, sleds, winter gear, and trail capacity exclusively for your group. This is why private bookings require payment for at least four participants, even when fewer than four guests attend.

Your tour price also supports the year-round care of our dogs—not only the hours they spend with you on the trail.

Our Siberian Huskies remain part of our family throughout their working years and retirement. They receive high-quality food, veterinary care, daily attention, exercise, enrichment, and a permanent home for life.

We also employ qualified wilderness guides and compensate them for the skill, preparation, and responsibility required to lead safe winter experiences.

This is not a high-volume sled ride. It is a carefully managed, small-scale experience built around the wellbeing of the dogs, guests, guides, and landscape.

Can everyone ride instead of driving?

It depends on the groups size. Private tours can be arranged for guests who want a traditional dog-sled ride. Please explain your preferred arrangement when you inquire so we can confirm guide, dog, and sled availability.

Can some people drive while others ride?

Yes. This is one of the main benefits of booking privately. We can often accommodate a mix of drivers and riders, although the exact arrangement depends on group size and the ages and abilities of the participants.

What is the maximum group size?

Our standard private drive-your-own-team experience accommodates up to six guests.

Custom ride-and-drive experiences may accommodate up to eight guests using a rotating format. Larger groups should contact us directly so we can assess guide availability, trail capacity, and the best way to structure the experience.

How do we book?

Private tours are arranged by inquiry so we can review your group composition, ages, preferred tour length, driver and rider requests, and any accommodation needs before confirming availability. Email: hello@arcticdogco.com
